Lehre organisieren
Every new semester, there are many organizational tasks to be completed in relation to teaching. Courses must be entered and scheduled in the online university portal LSF. Rooms need to be booked, taking into account the number of students, didactic and methodological aspects and technical requirements. The examination must also be planned directly and here too, dates must be set, rooms booked and examination formats taken into account.
The responsibilities for organizing teaching vary from faculty to faculty. Please get in touch with the relevant contact person if necessary.
The following questions are relevant for people involved in course planning:
Courses are registered in the online university portal LSF. Various data such as the number of participants (minimum and maximum), course type and number, registration deadlines, time and cycle of the course, room details and much more can be entered. Students usually register for a course in LSF and can be contacted by lecturers via LSF by email, e.g. to inform them that a course has been cancelled at short notice. Once you have entered your course in LSF, you can easily set up a Moodle course from within Moodle. Participants are automatically synchronised between the two systems.
Rooms at TU Dortmund University can be viewed in LSF. You can use the detailed search to make search queries tailored to your needs and view the utilisation of the rooms. You can also view the number of spaces and, in some cases, the equipment and contact persons.
In addition, teaching areas and faculties usually have their own rooms, which are also used for teaching. These rooms are allocated by the relevant contact person in the department or faculty.
You can view the current technical infrastructure, including operating instructions for the rooms equipped by the ITMC, on the following pages:
We have a range of equipment available for you to collect from the ITMC lending desk.
There are various options available to you to enrich your teaching:
- Books, journals, e-books, etc. can be found on the pages of Dortmund University Library.
- ER content can be found at ORCA.nrw
To support your course, you can have the library create a course reserve containing chapters from textbooks, journal articles, excerpts from films or musical works, which can also be integrated directly into the Moodle course room: Digital Reserve Book Collection.
Various digital tools, including the individual Moodle activities, are available to you for successful, innovative teaching. On the linked page you will find a description of their functionalities and possible applications.
If you already have a specific application scenario in mind, such as activating group work, you can use the tool search to select existing tools according to these specific criteria.
There are various sources of help available for different topics.

All relevant information on organising examinations can be found on the pages of the central examination administration.
Please note that in the case of a digital examination, further notification and room bookings may be required. You can find the necessary information in the Examinations section.
There are various ways of informing your students at short notice, for example about the cancellation of a course.
- LSF - You can use the e-mail function to write to your participants directly from LS by e-mail. This assumes that the enrolment or allocation procedure has been carried out.
- Moodle-Forum - You can publish important information via the Moodle (announcement) forum. If messages have a high priority, you should definitely use the announcement forum. It is automatically created in every course and is configured so that all course participants are automatically and bindingly registered as subscribers.
- E-Mail - You can also write to students by e-mail. For larger groups of students, you can download the email addresses from Moodle or LSF and transfer them to the email programme.
